Complete care for birthing parents and their newborns.

We provide care to our clients throughout pregnancy, labour and birth and in the early weeks postpartum.

You can choose to have your baby at home, at William Osler Etobicoke General Hospital or at Humber River Hospital. You will be cared for by well-trained, compassionate care providers who respect the individual needs of birthing parents and their families. We specifically serve families in Rexdale, Etobicoke and West Toronto.  If you live outside of this area, please do give us a call to see if we can help you.  We have midwives who speak English, Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Farsi, Punjabi, Gujarati, and Hindi.

How it works

  1. Request a midwife by filling out this form. Someone from our intake team will call you within a week and you will be scheduled for an intake appointment with one of our midwives.

  2. We'll walk you through everything you need to know about midwifery care to help you make decisions and choices that are right for you and your family.

  3. We work in small teams so someone that you know is around for you 24/7 if you have urgent concerns or when it’s time for you to have your baby.

PRENATAL CARE

Visits with your midwife will occur once a month until 28 weeks, every two weeks from 28-36 weeks, and once a week after 36 weeks until your baby is born. Prenatal appointments are about 30-45 minutes to allow time for answering questions and providing information. Family members and support people are always welcome to accompany you to appointments.

During your first few visits, we get to know you, your plans and concerns, and your health history. We monitor such things as blood pressure, weight gain, your baby's growth, heart rate and position. Your midwives will organize routine lab tests, ultrasounds and genetic screening as necessary, offering all the same tests as your doctor would.  We can help connect you to programs in the community and resources to support you on your journey through pregnancy and into parenthood.

I can’t thank you enough for making the birth of my second daughter as joyful as it was for me and my family.

LABOUR AND BIRTH

As a client in midwifery care, you will be offered the choice to have your baby at home or at the hospital.  We deliver out of William Osler Etobicoke General Hospital which is located at 101 Humber College Boulevard - near Highway 27 and Finch Ave and Humber River Hospital which is located at 1235 Wilson Avenue - near Keele and Wilson.  For a virtual tour of the birthing unit at Etobicoke General Hospital click here.

When you go into labour, you contact your midwife and she will attend to you either at home or hospital, based on your choice.  During your labour, your midwife will continually assess both you and your baby, and provide physical and emotional support. When your baby is about to be born, a second midwife will come to assist with the birth. If everything goes normally, only you, your family and your midwives will be present and no other healthcare providers will be involved.  Most midwifery clients go home within a few hours of their delivery.

Postpartum Care

Your midwives will continue to care for you and your baby for 6 weeks after the birth of your baby.  We will visit you within 24 hours of the birth and then throughout the first week at home, checking on you and the baby, answering questions and helping with breastfeeding.  After this, you will continue your postpartum care with us at the clinic, typically at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 6 weeks postpartum.
